i was so immersed in your comics that i forgot to comment on them, but hey i remembered to comment on the last :D

your comics encourage me to try drawing again, or in other words ; your comic is my solution to my ever growing discouraging self conscious .

i stumbled upon one of your inspiring and ever so motivating comic while i was admiring great art by professionals and cursing my untalented hands .... your comics made me realize that not all professionals were born with talented minds and hands , but that some have to make them talented.

i may be insignificant, but you have gained yourself one more watcher :D

I'm always in awe of how well you're able to illustrate these essays, to bring these concepts and ideas to live through the art, as much if not more than through the words. I love seeing how you really use the art, the images, to communicate what you're saying.

Looking forward to the new book! : )

This sort of thing drives me up the wall a bit. I pour so much effort into a drawing, yet nobody says anything about it. And this will make me sound like a jerk, but sometimes I come across a piece of work somebody did which really isn't all that good, and yet it gets loads of comments! I don't understand it :(

Yay! I've learned so much and tried to change my perspective on how to tackle life and art from your first book, Stephen!
I've bought the digital copy, sadly, but I hope to buy the physical one!

I'm very looking forward to your new series!

More power to you! :la:

Oh well, I'm really into this phase right now.
Especially when money comes in there is this pressure to get noticed.
I'm actually not sure if I prefer reaching many people and having a small impact on their life or few and have a great one ...
Hmm. You brought me some on interesting thoughts there.

The new book looks good so far.
I'll probably buy it, just as the last one (it was amazing!).

Yes! Finally!
I'm going to need to buy something!

With this essay, I'm very excited to see what's next, I think about this concept quite a few times to be honest with you.
I noticed a different color pallet for this new essay also? Interesting, I love it dude!

I got so excited when I saw a new piece of yours sitting in my watching bin, I even squeaked out a "Stephen!" Ahaha.

I went through that phase some years ago. I'm a hobbyist but I do so want to improve my skills. I thought websites like deviant art whose tagline was an art community would help me get my much wanted criticism.

I got bothered about this very thing once so I went over to the Forums to complain about it. I got shot back with lots of comments and replies saying that dA users aren't entitled to getting comments and constructive criticism for whatever they put up, and that I should be happy that I get faves and views. They gave me secondary reasons for not typing out comments such as "I don't have time." and "People don't normally ask for comments or critiques so I make it a practice never to type any out." and "I'd rather not have a thousand 'Kawaii!' on my artwork if you'd comment at each and every one of them," and also "Most often, someone's already said what I wanted to say. I wouldn't want to spam the artist with repetitive things."

The thing that bothered me with those replies is that they managed to make me look like the demanding bad guy, and that I was expecting to much from a community like dA. What I did learn from that experience is I should better phrase what I wanted in the Artist's Comments space AND I was also reminded of how vast and numerous the dA community is. A kind soul directed me to a dA group that actively gives out constructive comments for artists who want them for certain works. I went on over and became a part of it :) (shameless plug: :iconprojectcomment:, a more focused comment-for-comment group, quite active too)

This whole thing reminded me that while I am not entitled to anything, going for a smaller population (in my case, the Project Comment group) was a concrete step in getting where I wanted to go.

P.S. I really like the way you portray these common, little (but oh so paralyzing!) problems that artists face. In fact, scratch that, everyone experiences these little problems XD so I guess anyone can go buy your books :)

Thanks for that well thought out comment-- and for linking us to that nice feedback group! It's hard to interpret silence sometimes-- maybe people like it or maybe they don't-- but silence is hard to deal with.

There is no feeling like working on something for hundreds of hours, really pouring your heart into it, and then the response being... nothing.. I would rather people start listing off things they hate about it than them just be unmoved! And you're like "WEELLL??" And they're like "Oh.. it was cool."

Remove all hair from head.

Oh and I purchased a copy of brick by brick! Looking forward to getting my hands on it :-)

I completely agree! I'd rather hear:
"I think it sucks, because..." than not even have a response to it. There's no way to learn from silence!

You really do have a brilliant way of phrasing and illustration that highlights the topics at hand and gives them a little oomph. I've often heard people discuss your topics, but they're usually dismissed at the end with an 'Well, this is up for discussion." or "I really don't know how to solve it." But in your comics from what I've read, you really do honestly attempt to help and you have fantastic ideas. Thank you! I know I'm ready to listen! :)
