I think most of my influences are webcomic artists and people on here.

And you know...this makes me feel a whole lot better about most of my writing being fan-fiction. :aww:

Dude, I think I need your book. I'm getting more and more impressed with each new comic I read. It's like you know exactly what I've been thinking... :wow:

I'm always amazed how people can make things in response to other people making things; i.e. I was inspired by so-and-so who was inspired by someone-else who was inspired by yet another person, etc.....

Thanks dude! Yeah, the funny thing is I'm pretty sure I got the idea of artistic lineage from another artist. :)

Let me know if you have any questions about supporting the book!

George Herriman, to Bill Watterson, to Sam Logan, to me. :)
(Though Sam Logan can be removed from the equation - I LOVE Calvin and Hobbes too.)

This was a good idea! I looked up George Herriman and his work is incredible.

Well, this may explain something. As I've been trying to do different things, it has just dawned on me that the thing I am best at, is the thing for which I can name some influences. For example, I can't think of any photographers who have influenced my photography; I just see things I like and say "ooohhh." Likewise, I can't think of any artists from whom I have practiced. But, I can tell you that I read, multiple times, the works of Edgar Allen Poe, Jack London, Charles Dickens, and even, willingly, William Shakespeare. I was in the middle of an e-book by Ambrose Bierce when I had to re-do my computer and lost the book.

It seems to me, that I can write better than doing some other things. And now you've mentioned having an artistic heritage; well, that makes sense.

Cheers! :)

Thats neat-- it kind of fits in with a concept I've been thinking about-- that art is kind of a response to other artists-- like, I've noticed that when I just sit down to draw something-- I really can't-- but when I'm looking at some one else work, or have something to say to someone-- it comes pouring out. To me an essential part of art is communication. Good thoughts! Thanks for sharing!

I find it really hard to track back, people here on DA rarely reply when I ask whom they are influenced by, but sometimes I find influence maps and that is nice.

yaaaaaay I did it! [link] it's not too fancy. Basically text on a white background :P but I did look quite a way back to find some of these artists. (yes you are on the list. yes I included this entire chart) It was helpful that I already knew the bottom of the chart, so I worked my way up from there. :D

I wouldn't worry about that too much-- it's going to feel like stealing, but it's actually learning! Say, I'm looking through your gallery and found some Tatami Galaxy fan art! I thought I was the only one who knew about that series-- let alone liked it!

Yeah, but I'm just concerned about how much is too much, y'know?

And dude, Tatami Galaxy is AMAZING. I bought the original Japanese book, too, but the diction's too advanced for me. I have to turn to a dictionary almost every other word. I was able to read a Murakami novel with minimal trouble, so I thought I could do this one, but nope.

The first art style that I started to look upon and imitate was Rugrats, when I was about 6 years old. I still have drawings I tried do do of Angelica.
