This is really inspirational, but it's still an issue I have.  I have tons of smart ideas about HOW to manage myself, but I have yet to put them into practice -- lack of a good sleep schedule and being on the tail end of lots of assignments to do for school is just making it worse.  Stress adds up and I just want to distract myself and sleep.

Very very good ideas, but implementation still takes willpower.  Doesn't help I have ADD either, haha.

Yeah, I know how that is. Sometimes crunchtime makes things less than ideal.

I'm using this right now to do my art history internal and it is helping me so much! I set a timer for 30mins for each two paragraphs I write, and it works. I'm pretty sure I've never been so focused on a written assignment in my life. Tumblr and dA aren't a distraction to me since I'm worried about running out of time on the timer that I've set so I don't dare stop working.

Thank you so much for making this, it is really helpful and I will keep using it throughout my high school and uni years and probably still even after that.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're welcome! Great job! I like the idea of having specific goals for the time increments-- I actually hadn't thought of that.

Yeah, there are definitely some things that don't gamify well-- but may as well have fun with the work we can gamify!

Rather stressful at first but rewarding at the same time. Many awkward moments at work... Note to self: tone down enthusiasm. It attracts less attention.

I've been looking into gamification myself, as someone who absolutely hates doing work and often falls behind on uni projects it seemed like a great system, the problem I ran into though was rewards.

Games reward you for playing them, from being the winner in a board game to the satisfying 'ding' when you score a point in a video game. Real life just doesn't have that and I've never been able to find a way to replicate it. Sure you can say you're going to treat yourself at the weekend or something if you do all your work for the week but as a student, living on student loans, I and other people in my position simply don't have the money for that.

Here's a video that helped me understand the strengths and weakness of rewards: www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6XAPn…

Rewards are great for mechanical tasks like grinding for hp, but not great for abstract tasks like trying to write a book. In fact, sometime rewards can make you perform worse!

Very interesting video, thanks for sharing :)

That definitely gave me quite a bit to think about although it still makes me wonder what exactly is a good motivator for someone in my position. Mastery is definitely a motivator in my personal art but at university it feels slightly removed from what I specifically want to do so it doesn't quite fit the same mold.

I might try out your timer trick, see if that gets me working quicker and better
